Now I admit it takes quite a bit to get my dander up, but forcing people to REMOVE THE AMERICAN FLAG BECAUSE IT MIGHT 'OFFEND' SOMEONE!?!?

That is by far the stupidest thing I have read about lately. I'd be interested in hearing more of the story though. The only statement from management is that the flag might be deemed offensive due to the diverse community, and that wasn't even directly from them. IMO, The diverse community is located in the US, so they can leave or deal with being offended.

It actually gives the manager's POV and they're not banning JUST the US Flag, but all flags (including school/sports team banners). I'm actually rather surprised that the ACLU sided with management on the issue as well.

you can ban sports flags, foreign flags, etc, but you cannot ban the AMERICAN flag. I am pretty sure there is some rule agianst that somewhere.

And if there isnt, there should be.

I just don't get why they are being so absolutely stupid. There was no mention of past occurrences that would warrant such a drastic mandate. It seems like it's just come out of nowhere. Plus I don't see where the manager/owner get off thinking that they can just evict people for this. Unless it's in their lease agreement, then it seems like management doesn't have a leg to stand on in regards to actual enforcements. I didn't hear a mention of an HOA agreement either.

But yeah, I'm with the rest of you on the flag needing more protection. I read an article last month about a guy that burned a flag outside of a VFW in TX and the vets duct taped him to the flag pole as punishment. He got off lucky IMO. I hate the fact that our flag isn't a protected symbol.

This is very weird.

Albany, Oregon has the largest Veteran's Day parade west of the Mississippi.

How could the owner of the apartments not think this policy would cause
problems in a very patriotic city?

Well I figured it didn't get much more American than that...but I am sure I could have a flag laser etched into it
